Cookie Policy
Last updated: May 2026
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember information about your visit. We also use similar technologies such as local storage and session storage to store small pieces of data in your browser. This policy covers all such technologies.
2. Why we use cookies
We use cookies to keep Trail & Fortune running correctly, to remember your preferences (such as whether you have accepted our cookie notice), and to understand — at an anonymous, aggregate level — how visitors use our games. We do not use cookies to identify you personally or to build advertising profiles.
3. Categories of cookies we use
| Category | Purpose | Examples | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keep the site running: session handling, security, age-gate confirmation, cookie-consent record. No consent required. | __age_ok, __cc_v1 | Session to 12 months |
| Performance / analytics | Anonymous traffic measurement — pages visited, session length, device type. Set only with your consent. | __cf_bm, Cloudflare Web Analytics | Up to 30 days |
| Functional | Remembers UI preferences such as game volume settings and accepted age-gate. Set only with your consent. | LocalStorage keys for game state | Up to 12 months |
| Advertising / targeting | When you arrive via a paid campaign, Google Ads or Microsoft Advertising may set cookies to measure ad effectiveness. Set only with your consent. Third parties: Google (privacy policy), Microsoft (privacy policy). | Google Ads cookies, Microsoft UET | Up to 13 months |
4. Lawful basis
Our lawful basis for cookies is governed by UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). Strictly necessary cookies are set on the basis of legitimate interest — they are essential to operate the site and do not require your consent. All other cookie categories (performance, functional, advertising) are set only on the basis of your freely given, informed consent, which you provide via our cookie banner. You may withdraw consent at any time by following the steps in section 5 below.
5. How to manage your cookies on Trail & Fortune
When you first visit Trail & Fortune, a cookie banner gives you the option to "Accept all" cookies or "Essential only". Your choice is stored in localStorage.__cc_v1. To change your preference at any time, clear that key using your browser's developer tools (Application → Local Storage → cyprus-orienteering.com → delete __cc_v1), then refresh the page. The banner will reappear and you can make a new choice.
6. How to manage cookies in your browser
You can control and delete cookies directly in your browser. Links to the official guidance for each major browser:
7. Third-party cookies and services
The following third parties may set cookies on this site, subject to your consent:
- Cloudflare — provides our hosting, CDN, and security layer. May set
__cf_bmfor bot management. Cloudflare Privacy Policy. - Google — if you arrive via a Google Ads campaign, Google may set advertising cookies to measure campaign effectiveness. Only set with consent. Google Privacy Policy.
- Microsoft — if you arrive via a Microsoft Advertising campaign, Microsoft may set UET cookies. Only set with consent. Microsoft Privacy Statement.
8. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a withdrawal of consent for analytics and advertising cookies — only strictly necessary cookies will be set. We do not currently respond to the older Do Not Track (DNT) header, as it lacks a consistent technical specification.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use or applicable law. The 'Last updated' date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. We encourage you to check this page periodically.
